  • A Whole Lot of News Going On

Posted by The Unemployed Writer on January 16th, 2007

Things seem to be going on today. And they’re interesting, because they change things…or punch us in the gut with facts we already knew but chose not to remember. First off, Barrack Obama started up his exploratory committee today. What does it mean? He might consider thinking about telling us at some point or another if he’s going to be running for president (or vice president). It’s all the news wants to talk about right now. He’s the new, super candidate, even though he’s yet to announce. It seems like the media hypes these people more than we do anymore, getting them all riled up to the point where they don’t have a choice but to run, but then again, Obama’s a fun guy to watch, so the longer he’s on the ride, the better.

On a slightly less informed note, Fidel Castro is apparently within days of passing control over to someone else, likely his brother. I don’t know what this means for us, but I do know it means that the Bush foreign policy machine is going to mess something up somewhere.

And to top it all off, the State Department announced that nearly 35,000 Iraqis died in 2006. It’s good to know that the government along with its people care about the population of a small city being killed in a country in which we’re supposed to have “won” a war. We’d better be careful. If Bush declares any more victories, Iraq might be a sandbox.
I know, the news can be a drag, but every now and then you’ve gotta throw a few bits of reality out for the sake of perspective. Only to be buried shortly by the throws of the imagination.
